What will it take for you to receive Jesus Christ? Has not God been merciful to you? Have you not been awakened to your own dreadful condition?

Ahaziah, that wicked king, son of Ahab “served Baal and worshipped him and provoked to anger the Lord God of Israel…Then Moab rebelled against Israel” (1 Ki.22:53, 2 Ki.1:1). Moab, a heathen country rebelled against Israel and Israel was in great adversity, with many troubles and severe problems for her way was hard. And so is the way of the sinner. Is it not so with you too? For “the way of transgressors is hard” (Prov. 13:15). It’s a crooked way. It’s the way with the victims of lust, power, drink, money, pride, jealousy, ambition, and sorcery. The transgressor hardens his heart; therefore his way is hard also. Does not your conscience say to you “my own sins and sinful state has caused me my problems?” Maybe you are one of many who have delayed in coming to the Savior. Yet the Savior is calling “Come, come while mercy is near.”

The Lord has sent you messages by your conscience that you are guilty, guilty before the God of heaven, guilty of your sins, and guilty of sin. As a result you’ve been warned. Maybe you’ve suffered the loss of a child, or had a terrible accident. Maybe you’ve lost an arm or leg, or are not able to walk. Maybe you’ve got cancer or some disease and you find your way hard. Or could it be you are greatly in debt or maybe you’ve got some really bad family problems.

And yet there are other warnings- “And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick,” (1 Ki.1:2). There was no humbling of himself before God and inquiring why this disturbance had entered his realm. Oh dear reader, nothing happens by chance. There is no escaping the hand of God when He is determined in calling sinners to repentance. You are just as liable to meet the most dreadful circumstances in this life even in the shelter of your own home as if you were exposed to the deadliest weapons on the battlefield. “And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick.” There is no escaping the hand of God when he is determined to smite. The response of Ahaziah after his fall was: “and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease” (2Ki.1:2).

Is not your case such as Ahaziah’s that after the God of heaven and earth has witnessed your waywardness because of sin, and as a result you are suffering? And now helpless that you only turn in bitterness to idols? Could it be the god of spiritism or fortune-telling? Yet you have no rest. Could it be you’ve tried medicines, drugs, alcohol and narcotics? Yet you have no peace. Maybe you’ve crossed yourself, been baptized, stood and confessed before a priest, and to no avail. Your sin sick soul suffers, the weight of sin is unbearable as time runs out. Do you find yourself helpless even after you’ve said or read a prayer to Mary? And have placed candles in your house and have burnt incense to make your house “holy?” Maybe you have a picture somewhere in the house of a religious man like the pope, or some priest, or a picture that is supposed to represent Jesus Christ, or even Mary for that matter, for your source of comfort. Yet you’ve got no forgiveness?

These are the gods of Ekron, the gods of America, Africa, Ukraine and Russia, the gods of this world.

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:

They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:

They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither

 speak they through their throat.

They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them

Yes dear reader, now you stand in need. You are a blatant rebel against heaven. Your suffering is an indication to wake you up to your spiritual need. Were not the past judgments a means of humility? Is your heart so hardened to despise the dealings of God in your life, for you to turn to superstition, palm reading, astrology, and traditions of men; to the gods of the heathen? “Go, inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease” (2 Ki.1:2). You are guilty before a holy God for exposing yourself unto these evil powers.

The dreadful message from the prophet Elijah came. As an arrow that strikes the heart, so the words of the Living God as wounds to the soul and conscience: “…Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?

Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed (2 Ki.1:3,4).

The message is plain and yet solemn. Having reproved the awful sin of Ahaziah, the servant of God (Elijah) now pronounced judgment on him. Is this not a picture of you? First, God has crossed your affairs, and you find your way hard, and now you’re suffering because of sin. Neither of those judgments softened King Ahaziah or brought him to a place of humility. Oh dear friend, does this not speak of you? And now, although you don’t notice it, death lurks your path. “For the wages of sin is death;” (Rom.6:23) “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Rev.20:11). Is not the warning clear? Do you not tremble before this solemn judgment?  Has not your sin sick soul suffered enough? Ah! Dear reader, don’t be deceived any longer as king Ahaziah who thought that by seizing the Lord’s servant this would solve the judgment upon him.

“Then the king sent unto him [Elijah] a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.

And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty”  (2 Ki.1:9,10).

Dear sinner, what other attempts will you make to escape the pending judgment of the thrice holy God? You cannot hide from His holy presence. You cannot outsmart His omniscience and you cannot stop His powerful message of doom by trying to kill his messengers. Messengers may be killed but God and His message stands; “YE SHALL SURELY DIE!”

A second attempt was made by king Ahaziah as the first and a second time God

answered by fire. But the hardened king sent another captain with another fifty men to the prophet Elijah that he might come down; “And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight. Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight” (2 Ki.1:13,14).

Would Elijah’s message change? Did he lighten the condemnation? Would he preach “peace,” “love,” “security,” don’t worry, be happy”? No! His words were “thus saith the Lord.” Sinner, what folly it is for you to wait . What folly it is for you whose breath is in your nostrils to contend with the Almighty. One flash and bolt of fire and they perished like burnt stubble. And this same God can easily take your life just as fast, only to lift up your eyes in hell.

Oh poor sinner friend, are you not tired of being a slave to sin? And does not your heart beat the doom of judgment? What will it take for you to receive Jesus Christ?

There is a man that I know personally that would not pay attention to God’s warnings and it wasn’t until his leg was literally cut off by a train, before he took God seriously. It was that event that turned his heart in repentance and trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Now he is a preacher serving the Lord, yet with one leg as a reminder that God was merciful. For the terrible accident could have been a lot worse and taken his life only to find himself in hell and that forever.

Come, come now, by faith to the living resurrected Savior Who shed His pure, precious blood that you might be washed clean, saved by the Crucified One-

In closing, here is an earnest exhortation and affectionate warning.

Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that you understand that you are lost. And what is it to be lost? I shall not try to tell you the meaning of that dreadful word “lost.” Some of you reading this brochure may know of it before another sun has risen, for “you shall surely die.”

Do you desire to be saved? Hear me.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

You should know yourself to be a ruined sinner and then you should believe this:

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners;” even the worst of them. You may come to Christ just as you are-, guilty, wicked, poor; just as you are, Christ will take you.

Come, then, to Jesus at once. Do you say you do not know how to come? Come just as you are. Do not wait to do anything. You don’t need to wait to go to church.

Jesus is standing, waiting at the door of your heart right now, for he says:

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me”  (Rev.3:20).

All you need to do is receive him by faith:

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” (Jn.1:12).

With simple, child-like faith, believe the following words:

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Rom.10:9,10).

Come to the Savior today, right now, or else YOU SHALL SURELY DIE. Your soul will be eternally damned. “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:” (2 Thess. 1:8).

Jesus Christ, God’s Son died for you to pay the price of sin. Sin demands a price and that of death.  Only perfect righteousness can overcome sin, death, and hell. The only man that did that was Jesus Christ.  You, on the other hand, are a guilty sinner and deserve to die.  Do you believe that? You will die because of your sins. Christ died because, “the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Is.53:6). That was a judicial, eternal act of Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross two thousand years ago. If you die in your sins, you will definitely go straight to hell because your own righteousness could not save you. But the good news is that you don’t have to go there. God wants to save your soul by giving you the gift of eternal life:

“the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom.6:23).

         Jesus Christ, God’s righteousness not only died but was buried and on the third day rose again and lives today and wants to save you. Do you believe that? If so, with a sincere heart, turn to God right now for, “now is the day of salvation,” acknowledging that you’ve sinned against Him and that you deserve to go to hell, but want to be saved.  Right where you are at pray something like this;

God, I know I’ve sinned against you and deserve to go to hell. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for me. Save me. Wash me by the blood of Christ. By faith I do now accept Jesus Christ as my Savior.

If you have come to God and received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, please let us know about it. We want to help you grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by sending you some literature. May the Lord bless you.
